Project Hail Mary

1 March 2026

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller

Tom says:

Ryan Gosling sci-fi adventure film in which Gosling’s character wakes up on a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there, gradually deducing that he’s the only survivor on a mission sent to a solar system 12 light years from Earth to search for a solution to a catastrophic event which has befallen humanity back home. Written by Drew Goddard, who has some excellent high-concept sci-fi credits to his name, including The Martian from 2015 (that film where Matt Damon was stuck on Mars and had to work out how to survive until he could be brought home).

Hamnet

1 January 2026

Chloe Zhao

Tom says:

High-profile adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, based on the short life of Shakespeare’s (likely) son Hamnet, who may have partially inspired Hamlet, and his mother Anne/Agnes Hathaway. Expect a lot of broody shots, intense romance and loss, and hopefully great performances from Paul Mescal as Shakespeare and the ever-phenomenal Jessie Buckley as Agnes. Both will be hoping for Oscar noms, I think, particularly Buckley.
