Preserves and presents Greek and Roman sculpture and related antiquities and supports research teaching and public engagement with ancient art

Commissioned by King Ludwig the First as the first public museum in Munich to house his collection of classical sculpture rebuilt after war damage and restored as a key antiquities museum

Barberini Faun Roman copy of Greek original Medusa Rondanini Aegina temple pediment sculptures Roman portraits of emperors including Augustus and Hadrian Athena statues reliefs from Roman sarcophagi mythological group sculptures and grave steles

Several hundred sculptures and reliefs plus smaller objects

This site was created in response to my new years resolution: "Music 25 concerts in 52 weeks"
